Calorex Dehumidifiers Keep National Arts in Perfect Condition

Storage Vaults at Dean Hill, Salisbury used by several national arts organisations are in perfect condition since the installation of two new Calorex dehumidifiers.

The former naval armaments bunkers are now high security storage vaults. They have no sunlight and can only be entered by internal tunnels.

Calorex first installed a dehumidifier at Dean Hill in 2009. The site has expanded year by year and now contains five vaults. Each one uses a Calorex DH150AX dehumidifier.

Michael Festenstein, special project manager for Crown Fine Art said:

“Ensuring that the humidity within the storage vaults is kept under control is crucial.

“Since the first dehumidifier was installed five years ago we have been very impressed with the products and level of service from Calorex. We now have five identical humidifiers for each of the vaults and wouldn’t hesitate in purchasing more if needed in the future.”

The dehumidifiers take out excessive moisture and condensation, which can damage irreplaceable works of art. Rather than heating outside air and circulating it through at the equivalent of eight times each vaults volume per hour, dehumidification is more advanced.

Dehumidification uses the same air and removes moisture from it. Generally, a Calorex dehumidifier converts every unit of energy used into 2.5 times the amount in usable heat. This means they can save a lot of energy compared to more conventional heating and ventilation solutions. Calorex suggests that 500% savings are possible.
