This week, Carrier Transicold, the transport refrigeration manufacturer, is celebrating 75 years of Carrier road transport refrigeration, and 45 years since the launch of the Carrier Transicold business.

David Appel, president, Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems said:

"Carrier's history encompasses more than a century of innovation in air conditioning and refrigeration, and pioneering achievements in truck and trailer refrigeration have been an integral part of this story.

"Now in our 75th year of providing products for road transport refrigeration, we continue to drive the industry forward with high-performance, environmentally sustainable refrigeration solutions."

Carrier Transicold started in 1970 with the merging of the California-based transport refrigeration makers, Transicold, and its own Special Products Division. This division had made road transport applications since 1940. Carrier Transicold went on to make refrigeration systems for various transportation sectors, including shipping, trailers, Lorries and retail refrigeration.

David Appel continued:

"Our products have long served an important need, delivering food and other temperature-sensitive goods to expanding population centers."

There is no doubt that refrigeration has had a dramatic impact on the economies and lifestyles of many people around the world. However, there is a still a long way to go to extend the benefits of refrigeration to more countries and people.

A new study by the University of Nottingham suggests that only 10 percent of perishable foods are refrigerated worldwide. Better refrigeration will stop large amounts of wasted food. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), of the 805 million people don't have enough to eat, yet one-third or more of all food produced never reaches consumers due to spoilage and waste.
